With great sadness, we mourn the death of Dr. Robert Comis, the long-time leader of the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group.

Dr. Comis’ impact on the cooperative groups and cancer research itself cannot be overstated. He helped launch thousands of clinical trials, including the landmark NCI-MATCH precision medicine study nearing completion. Dr. Comis was an innovator, advocate, and mentor who brought vision and passion to his work with the National Cancer Institute, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the National Coalition of Cancer Research, the Institute of Medicine, the American Cancer Society, and so many other organizations. He will be missed deeply by me and so many others.

On behalf of SWOG, I send condolences to our partners at ECOG-ACRIN and to the Comis family.
